Elbow, Wrist, And Hand Fractures

Fractures in the wrist and forearm area are common with falls. Two common fractures of the wrist are Colles fracture and Scaphoid fracture.  Both of these fractures typically occur from falls onto an outstretched hand.  A Colles fracture is a complete break of the radius bone of the forearm, close to the wrist, and will need to be stabilized using screws and plates.  A scaphoid fracture is a break in one of the small bones of your wrist, resulting in pain just below the base of your thumb.  They tend to heal very slowly due to poor circulation around the bone.
